When the Estates Department of West Mercia Police commissioned a new police station for Peterchurch in 2004, they were looking for a station that used a strong contextual form whilst signifying a building as a landmark, readily evident as the local police station.
The prime objective was to challenge the established form of police institutions without compromising any integrity.
The new building is situated centrally in the village and its form follows the series of gabled houses that lead to the village crossroads. Local building typologies, such as farmhouses and barns, gave distinct design generators for the evolution of the modern police station.
There was a requisite for a strongly identifiable building that at the same time worked well with its context.
The project was considered for the Prime Minister's Better Public Building Award
