Sustainable housing set around a live/work hub

This architectural proposal is for a new kind of residential development on the site of a former Waste Incinerator.

A public consultation exercise welcomed the removal of the incinerator and there was a majority in favour of a 'low-impact' community: an eco-hamlet.

The houses are grouped looking onto a communal village green affording security. A hub formed from the reuse of the base of the old incinerator building will be owned by the Community and will provide on-site workspace and community areas.

Eco homes are designed to Level 5 of the Code for Sustainable Homes with biomass heating, photovoltaics, an allotment for each home and reed beds. The proposal also includes a community management plan and has now been submitted to planners.
